4 of July Stuff

Our town celebrated America's birthday a week early with a fest, a parade and a lot of people.Trinity had the chance to spray the firehouse. I brought Everett over to do it thinking he would jump at the chance considering he loves anything to do with firetrucks. He, instead, decided he was scared of the scary fireman and refused.A llama with a lion cut.

Oz Ball

We made our annual trip to the Oz Ball this year at Navy Pier in support of The Emerald City Theatre. They have a great season coming up: Pinkalicious, Wizard of Oz, Don't Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Check them out, the kids *love* it.
I was so excited to get into the ballroom, do fun stuff with the kids, check out the silent auctions, boogie, meet the characters and of course snap pictures! I turn on my camera...battery dead. gasp!!
Thank goodness we were at Navy Pier and easily found a $10 disposable camera. Do you know how ancient I felt taking pictures with this thing?!? In addition, the fact I couldn't see the finished product immediately was quite disturbing. Anyway, the pictures aren't great but at least they exist other than in my mind.
The kids had a blast. Everett was a DANCING MACHINE. He stayed on stage without us forever just following the moves of the cast. He will grabbed the lion's hand/paw and joined him in the conga line. It was hilarious. He was by the lion's side until I finally felt awkward for the lion and convinced Everett to move on to the cupcake table or something.

Another Visitor

Charlie (as Trinity named him) tried to get into our house from the window well. We had to transplant him into the backyard.

Science

We raised 10 caterpillars into butterflies this past week. We only had one perish. I had to be merciful on the poor little thing and squish him to put him out of his misery.
I was just as excited to watch the metamorphosis as the kids. It was pretty neat. We released the butterflies yesterday after the cat became perturbed over the new guests. A couple hung out for awhile and visited the flowers in the yard.

There one flies away over Trinity's right shoulder.
We enjoyed some nice outside time since the heat finally broke.

Photo Shoot

Some recent shots from my favorite photographer, Marmalade Photography.

Little Man on the Move

Father's Day

This family looks so good it almost seems fake. Fortunately, we are that happy!
I didn't realize until now how color coordinated everyone was. This was right outside our church. It was the first time, in a long time, Reeve stayed in the nursery without flipping out. What a nice dad's day gift.
Trinity picked out some nice work shirts for Eddie and I got him a BBQ cookbook that is bigger than the bible and a nice Williams & Sonoma mesh pan that he can BBQ veggies and fish on. A gift for him and a meal I don't have to cook for me. Everyone wins! The cousins.Later we swam at Eddie's parent's house and had quite a BBQ spread. my boys!

Spotlight

Trinity dressed up in 92 degree weather to sing a song about Santa Claus.

Touch A Truck

Everett *loves* trucks. Eddie reads him the same book every night that lists trucks, cranes and tractors that I never heard of. Everett's favorites are the clam-shell crane, front loader, combine, bulldozer and the boom and the bucket. When I heard that the town over was having touch a truck, which is basically every construction vehicle you can think of complete with free access to climb all over them, I couldn't refuse to take Everett. Although our time there was short, he was in heaven for about 22 minutes.

SYTYCD

One of my favorite shows is So You Think You Can Dance. Everett thinks he sure can! During the beginning of the current season, it was auditions week. There was a "dancer" that Everett decided was his dance mentor. He watches the same routine over and over and tries to copy all the moves. The funniest part is that he LOVES to perform for anyone who comes over. As soon as we have company he says, "do you want to see silly boy dancing?"

I sent it via FB to the actual dancer. His response:

Mike Perlman
That has to be the most inspiring 123 Party! tribute I have ever seen. Way to go Everett! He doesn't doubt the dance!-Lazer

Run For Hope

My neighbor, and friend, works for Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn. On June 6th, they had a 5k run/walk and a kid's dash race for the little ones. The whole neighborhood participated which was so nice! I thought it was the perfect opportunity to train for my half marathon that I am running on August 1. The kids and Eddie were there to cheer me on. My knees that were previously hurting me felt good. Everything was going great until I was 4 blocks from the finish and something horrible happened to my right ankle. As I write this, 2 weeks post race, I am finally walking without a limp thanks to my friend, Motrin, and some good physical therapy.

I hobbled to the finish to see the kid's run. Everett wasn't too excited about running but Trinity was all smiles. I was behind the camera cringing in pain.

The Race: The Movie

On the way home we rescued a turtle from the middle of a 4 lane highway. We brought him to a local forest preserve where he is happy in the pond.

Stanley Cup!

We are big hockey fans here. It has always been my sport of choice. Those who know me well clearly remember me traveling the continental US watching Wayne Gretzky play in his final season and harassing him until he gave me his game hockey stick. ahhh, good times! When the Blackhawks made it to the Stanley Cup finals it wasn't even a discussion as to whether we (or me by myself) were going. We got tickets for Game 2, 11 rows from the ice and the perfect view to watch all three goals of the game being scored. They won 2-1 that game which was the icing on the cake. It was truly an experience and among my favorites of my life thus far.

A brief video to capture the mood and excitement in The Madhouse!

Two weeks later we braved the crowds to see the parade and continue in the celebration!

Trinity

Its been awhile since Trinity's birthday. We finally got around to taking her to the doctor for her 5 year check-up. She weighs 43.2lbs (75th %tile) and is 45.5 in tall (90th %tile). She was very excited to not get any shots this year since we covered them all last year. She had to get a school physical, a dental exam and soon to have an eye exam. I am excited to have the kids growing up but I dread the day I have to do all the school loop jumping and paperwork for all three.

Although Trinity is growing quickly, there are some things she does that I hope wont change for awhile.

She calls sun lotion "sunscream".

She likes to pick clothes off the store racks and says, "this is so cute, RIGHT?"

Although not often, she still has an imaginary friend.

She still has a bit of a southern twang to her voice. For example, she pronounces today as taday.
GooKa is her "word". She conveniently used it when she doesn't know the answer to something or is trying to give me a hard time. Here are some examples:
Trinity, what would like like for lunch? Gooka!
Trinity, did you hit Everett? Gooka!
Trinity, can you hear me? Gooka!

Frisbees are pronounced krisbess.

God love her!

Reeve Turns 1!

He recently went to the doctor for his 1 year checkup. He is almost 24 lbs. (75th %tile) and is 31 inches long (90th %tile) although I think he is about a half inch taller. He is off the bottle and off formula. I am pacifier and bottle free for the first time in 5 years. Next are all the diapers! Soon I will not need a diaper bag and then what will I do?!?!?
He waves bye bye and says it too.
He is taking steps.
He points and says "this!"
You know I take too many pictures when he sees my camera and says "cheese!"
He is a fantastic sleeper now and is a great eater.
He holds to phone to his ear (more like behind his head) and says "hi" and an entire conversation I cannot understand.
He popped his 5th tooth the other day and is working on 3 more. ;(
He is still a mama's boy. I am not minding though! I love his cuddles.

The Graduate

Trinity has received her preschool diploma complete with an official grade of an A+. I am so happy to have a summer off of getting 3 kids in the car to get her to school by 9am. She is all registered for Kindergarten which she will be taking the school bus to and from. yay! She is so very excited.
In preschool, she learned to write all her letters perfectly, upper and lower case. She learned to write up to number 15. She can count to 100. She can read and recognize about 20 words. She can sound out all letters and put together words. She can cut any shape and stay on the line. She knows her address, phone number and how to spell her full name. She has learned how to make new friends without her mama by her side and how to sit still for 2.5 hours and listen and follow directions carefully. priceless!Trinity and her teacher. It was also Reeve's 1st birthday the same day so after the graduation we headed to Chuck E. Cheese for some fun and games.

Reeve Running

Reeve has taken his first solo steps just a couple of days ago. (I really should get that on video.) In the meantime, here he is practicing with a shopping cart.

Venezuela at its best.

Eddie's family from Venezuela had recently come in for a visit. His grandmother Miriam and Uncle Miguel made the trip into town. Grandma Miriam celebrated her 75th birthday while she was here. In addition she was able to celebrate Mother's Day with Eduardo (Eddie's dad) for the first time in probably over 30 years.
It was the first time she had met Reeve. Too bad he was not excited about giving her much cuddle time. He was only momentarily distracted by her pretty necklaces. Trinity and Everett had a great time with her and their uncle. It is always sad to see them leave but always inspires us to make the trip back to Venezuela to visit everyone. Our goal is Christmas 2011. We plan on spending it on the white sandy beaches of Venezuela!

Bowling

Everett loves watching The Flintstones movie. He is a big fan of Fred and his bowling. There is a scene where Fred is bowling with his league and really takes his time to line up the ball. Everett has latched onto that scene and loves to recreate it. Here is the video recreation. Never mind his lack of pants. ;0
